Pilates
Why pilates?
Omnia are delighted to be able to offer a range of Pilates classes with our Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) trained physiotherapists. Our classes are small, with an emphasis on personal attention, so that you feel supported at all times and make the best possible progress.
We provide mats and a range of small equipment to keep each class interesting and challenging, but ask that you bring a towel and water bottle with you for your session.
Pilates is an exercise approach created by Joseph Pilates during WWI when he successfully rehabilitated bed bound soldiers, enabling them to make rapid recoveries from their injuries. Pilates has evolved since this time into a truly
holistic approach to exercise, which centres mind and body. The exercises emphasise the need to start each movement from a core of stability centred around the low back and pelvis.
The Pilates method then gradually increases the intensity of each exercise by changing arm and leg positions or adding resistance in the form of weighted balls, resistance bands or gravity. Throughout this process, correct breathing control is emphasised which assists the mind / body connection. A fundamental aspect of Pilates is the goal of improving the everyday function of the person as a whole.
The Physiotherapists at Omnia have all been trained in Clinical Pilates, an approach which utilises physiotherapy expertise in the interpretation and progression of each of the original 34 Pilates exercises, training developed by the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute.
Our Physiotherapy-led Pilates classes are purposefully small so that the we are able to give individual attention to everyone in the group. The exercises we teach are highly adaptable to each and every person, so that everyone is able to exercise to the best of their ability and make optimum progress. This enables us to link the key roles of both Pilates and Physiotherapy in the prevention and rehabilitation of a wide range of injuries and conditions from back, neck, shoulder and knee pain, to pelvic floor muscle weakness and continence problems.
At Omnia, we teach Pilates to men and women of all ages and abilities. If you are not sure whether Pilates is right for you, please call one of the team at Omnia who would be happy to discuss your individual circumstances with you.
If you have not done any Pilates before, we encourage you to come to us for an individual session at the clinic first, so that we can ensure you know the basics and can practice some of the key exercises before joining a class.
Individual pilates
If you are new to Pilates and not sure if it is for you, or would prefer a more personalised experience, then why not book in for an hour long one to one session with one of our qualified physios?
We are also pleased to offer a one to two session if you would like to come with a partner or friend.
If you require a one to one prior to joining a class, we offer a 30 minute session in which we will teach you the 5 basic Pilates principals. Feel free to discuss your requirements with us!
Group classes
Omnia are delighted to be able to offer a range of Pilates classes with our Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) trained physiotherapists. Our classes are always small, with an emphasis on personal attention, so that you feel supported at all times and make the best possible progress.
We provide mats and a range of small equipment to keep each class interesting and challenging, but ask that you bring a towel and water bottle with you for your session. Our classes are held in our own studio in our clinic at 1a Clifton Road.
Whilst we encourage our clients to book and pay for blocks of classes in advance at a cost of £11 per session, we recognise this is not always practical for people. It is therefore possible to pay as you go for £13 a session subject to availability in the class.
